Jacobuskerk

The reformed church in Zeerijp is the last Groningen church built in the Roman Gothic style. Since its construction in the 14th century, very little has changed to the cruciform church.

Take a closer look

The freestanding tower was built in the second half of the 15th century. The two large bells hanging in the church tower date from 1502. Until the seventeenth century, the annex to the church was used as a school. The organ was built in 1651 by Th. Faber. The instrument was later modified several times, including by A.A. Hinsz.

Unique is the interior, all walls are brick imitation, a deep red colour with white joints. The pointed arched vaults also feature this brick imitation, albeit in different shades and patterns. Organ, pulpit, piscinae and funeral plates complete the unusual interior.

On Sundays, services are held in the church. During the week, the building is freely accessible.
