Academiegebouw

The city of Groningen has had a university since 1614. It was first located in an old monastery complex on Broerstraat, but a new academiegebouw in neo-classical style was built on that site in 1850.

In 1906, this building went up in flames, after which the present Academiegebouw was built. It was built in northern Dutch neo-Renaissance style, to a design by state architect J.A. Vrijman.
