Academiegebouw
The city of Groningen has had a university since 1614. It was first located in an old monastery complex on Broerstraat, but a new academiegebouw in neo-classical style was built on that site in 1850.
Take a closer look
In 1906, this building was destroyed by fire, after which the current Academiegebouw was constructed. It was built in the Northern Dutch Neo-Renaissance style, based on a design by Chief Government Architect J.A. Vrijman.
