Ae's Woudbloem is part of nature reserve 't Roegwold. On dry sandy peaks along the Fivel, a primeval stream valley formed in the ice ages, lay the encampments of Stone Age hunters. The archaeological values have been taken into account in the nature development and the historical parcelling pattern has also largely been preserved. In addition to the original watercourses Slochter Ae and Scharmer Ae, an extra (natural) water connection, the Scald Ae, was dug during the nature development. Here you can experience a varied, rugged landscape of reed marshes, woods and open water.

Chances are you will meet the Herefords stud bulls on this walking route. Hereford is a tough breed of cattle that can withstand all weather conditions. This allows them to run outside all year round. These cattle have a gentle and calm character, which makes them very suitable for grazing natural areas. Over the reed swamp, will you spot the marsh harrier in his or her characteristic low-flying flight?
Boots or waterproof shoes are recommended on the unpaved and grassy trails.
