Watertoren Oude Pekela
The water tower in Oude Pekela was built in 1938. It was designed by engineer H.F Mertens. He designed several water towers, including those in Bilthoven, Soest and Stadskanaal.

He was commissioned to design the water tower when it became apparent that the pumping station in Onnen could not provide sufficient pressure to supply Oude Pekela with water. This was discovered when the village was connected to the mains water supply in 1934. The tower is 48 metres high and has a water reservoir capacity of 1,000 m³. The water tower was decommissioned in 2008.
