Liudgerkerk Niekerk
The Romanesque Church of Niekerk is built of brick and tufa Romanesque and is one of the oldest in the Westerkwartier. The oldest part dates from the 12th or first half of the 13th century.

The nave is still built entirely of tuff. The tower was built in the 13th century from brick and parts of tuff that were freed up when that part of the church was demolished. The roof of the church originally consisted of thatch and was later tiled. The church includes a richly carved pulpit from 1705 by Allert Meijer and Jan de Rijk. The old church bell from 1620 by Lorraine bellfounders François Simon and André Obertin (Aubertin) was melted down in World War II and replaced with a new one after the war. The Van Oeckel organ dates from 1895. Excavations have shown that the cemetery of this church existed before the stone church was built.
