Historical Storytelling Foundation

Stichting Historisch Vertellen brings the history of the province of Groningen to life in a combination of storytelling and music.

Take a closer look

Living conditions used to be different, but feelings, ideas and human reactions are still very recognisable today. Stichting Historisch Vertellen conveys these emotions through personal stories from Groningen's history. Storytellers perform in historical costumes and musicians play historical instruments, appropriate to the period in which a story takes place.

Two performances (1 hour each)

  • 'Emo's Zeitgeist 1175-1237': 4 narrators and two musicians in costume with 13th-century music on bass trumpet, noise pipe, chamois horn and drum. Inspired by the 'Chronicle of the monastery Bloemhof at Wittewierum', about the struggles surrounding churches and monasteries in Fivelgo.
  • 'Rengersbetrayal after the Gronings Ontzet 1672': five narrators and two musicians in costume with 17th-century music on pommer, quarter-bass dulcian and tupan. The personal stories of the borg inhabitants from Slochteren and the citizens of Groningen offer us a surprising view of the City and Ommelanden during the Disaster Year 1672....
