Nature park 'Between the Fens' can be divided into four areas: de Heemtuin, the nature development area, the visitor centre with cultural garden and 'Between the Fens'.
Construction of de Heemtuin was started in 1982. An old sheep pasture was transformed into a varied natural forest and an artificial landscape with wild flowers and plants. Ten years later, the nature development area was created by digging ponds and creating relief in a former agricultural area. Then the visitor centre was built, amid a cultural garden with a herb garden, a small animal garden and a nature playground for children. It was only in 2005 that natural park 'Between the Fens' was created. The nature park features a prehistoric settlement where there are regular experiments, such as building a hunting hut or making a fish trap. This was followed in 2016 by the construction of the Mammoth Path, an exciting hiking trail with all kinds of obstacles on and along the water along the way. The latest development is the construction of a mini campsite with furnished safari tents in 2021.
In short, there is plenty for everyone to do and discover in and around de Heemtuin in Muntendam. And after you have had a great time in nature, you can relax on the indoor or outdoor terrace of the sustainably built pavilion. Here the staff are happy to serve you something from the 'Heemtuin menu' or tell you more about the many possibilities: from buffet and barbecue to camping in a tent with a view.
