Gerarda Gockingagasthuis

On the Grote Rozenstraat in Groningen stands the Gerarda Gockingagasthuis. This guesthouse was founded in 1870 by jonkheer Wolther Gockinga, in memory of his wife Gerarda Wolthers.

The guest house was for women who were unmarried or widowed and had worked as servants. In the early 1970s, the cottages were purchased by the university, which wanted to expand. The plans for this were modified, allowing the guest house to be preserved. Today it is occupied by private individuals.
