Gemeentehuis Veendam
The oldest part of the town hall in Veendam was built in 1878. In 1913, the building underwent major renovation and extension based on a design by architect J. Stuivinga from Zeist.

The new – and iconic – section has been built in a Neo-Dutch Renaissance style.
Inside, the stained-glass windows are particularly striking. They feature the family coats of arms of prominent Veendam residents. In 1968 and 1988, the building was extended several times with new wings. The building is still in use as the town hall.
Before the town hall was opened in 1878, the town council used to meet in a hotel-restaurant. Afterwards, the councillors would often stay on for a drink. Old meeting minutes show that a number of councillors would have liked to keep this tradition alive. There were several discussions about the possibility of including a bar in the town hall, which was yet to be built. Ultimately, it was decided not to do so.
Exhibition wall
In the central hall of the town hall, there is an exhibition wall where (amateur) artists from Veendam and the surrounding region have the opportunity to exhibit their work.
