Meerland

Meerland is a small, rural hamlet near Oostwold in the municipality of Oldambt. It originated in the 19th century after the Lake Huninga was drained and grew into a farming village with a school, clubhouse and its own agricultural association.

Today, Meerland has a special location: on a peninsula in the Oldambtmeer, in the middle of the Blauwestad area. Yet it has retained its rural character. South of the village lies nature reserve Meerland, with raised bog, young deciduous forest and a schaapskooi where a flock of the Forestry Commission grazes.

A place where history, nature and tranquillity come together.
