Kerk Visvliet
Visvlies was traditionally a fishing village. It was situated next to the fish-rich branch (vliet) of the River Lauwers and owed a large part of its income to this.

This is still evident in the church, which was built in 1427 in the Gothic style. Whereas a cockerel is normally chosen for the weather vane, a fish has adorned the roof turret above the three copper spheres here since 1693. Fish can also be seen on the pulpit and the lectern. Set into the south wall of the chancel is a stone inscribed with, amongst other things, the price of rye in 1557. The stone probably commemorates a year of famine, as the price mentioned was exceptionally high for that time.
