Museum Kapiteinshuis Pekela

'Stap inside the 19th century' is the apt slogan of museum Kapiteinshuis in Nieuwe Pekela and not without reason. Anyone who steps inside has the feeling of going back in time.

Take a closer look

In Museum Kapiteinshuis Pekela, the feeling creeps up on you as if the captain has got up to take a walk with his wife and will return at any moment to tell his tall tales. Kornelis Jans Boon and Jantje Roelofs Koop had a Kapiteinshuis built in Nieuwe Pekela just before the 19th century. The two bluestone niches under the front door with the initials K.J.B. and J.R.K. and the year 1799 are reminders of the construction. The Kapiteinshuis was built at a time when the Veenkoloniale Zeevaart was experiencing its first heyday. Stap over the threshold of museum Kapiteinshuis in Pekela and it feels like going back in time. The captain's cap and coat hang at the door and he might be taking a stroll after a long sea voyage. Meanwhile, you can have a quiet look around the house.
