Christmas markets large and small

In the villages of Midden-Groningen you will find the nicest Christmas markets. Very atmospheric, with mulled wine, hot chocolate, fire baskets, crafts and domestic crafts, but above all lots of conviviality.

Wieze Shops Christmas route

Nine cosy shops with something for everyone, that is the Wieze Winkeltjes. At this fun route along flowers, brocante, vintage, unique home accessories and delicacies, you will find the nicest gifts for yourself or someone else. For example, sustainable tapparfum or delicious chocolates & cannoli at Lak of Smak, colourful Christmas baubles at JoMilly and a wide range of regional products at Smaakvol Slochteren (12 and 13 December, 10:00-17:30, Midden-Groningen).

Christmas market Siddeburen

In the heart of the cosy village of Siddeburen, you go back to the time of Charles Dickens: stallholders and extras are dressed as if from the ^19th century. Among the Christmas trees and braziers, you will find local produce, Christmas decorations, winter outfits, home accessories, toys and much more. There is even a light show with Friesian horses (12 December 16:00-21:00, Hoofdweg Siddeburen).

Christmas market Brandweermuseum

Upon entering the Christmas market at het Brandweermuseum , you get a glass of mulled wine or hot chocolate. Then you can walk among the fire engines to the cosy Christmas market. There will be live music by Krysztof Groen and Warntje Brugge and, as every year, delicious snert from Butcher's Post. Looking for a gift for a firefighter lover? The museum has a small shop and is also open every Tuesday evening (13 December 10:00-16:00, Kleinemeersterstraat 158 Sappemeer).

Winter Worship in Sappemeer

Atmospherically lit ships and demonstrations of old crafts can be seen during WinterWelvaart at Historische Scheepswerf Wolthuis in Sappemeer. Here you can learn about the history of peat-colonial shipbuilding. Stroll along the many stalls, visit historic ships and enjoy the pleasant songs of Piratenkoor Voorwaarts Voorwaarts (13 December 10:00-17:00, Noorderstraat 308 Sappemeer).

Christmas market Slochteren

"Where village and Christmas spirit meet" is how Peter van der Broek sees the Christmas market at MFC De Houtstek. You will find Christmas decorations, Christmas chocolates, beauty items and local products. Volunteers have made Christmas arrangements, with the proceeds going to the Food Bank. Listen to a beautiful Christmas story while enjoying mulled wine or Groningen delicacies such as arretjescake or snert (13 December, 13:00-18:00, Hoofdweg 9A Slochteren).

Christmas route Kiel-Windeweer

This long ribbon village is super atmospheric during the annual Christmas Route with illuminated bridges, decorated houses and farms and all kinds of small entrepreneurs opening their doors. With art, candles, the Kielster Kruidenvrouwtje, craft Christmas gifts, bric-a-brac and, of course, delicious food and drinks. Residents will share both their creativity and their pride in the village and the connectedness that lives here during this weekend (13 and 14 December 11:00-17:00, Kiel-Windeweer).

Christmas market MFC De Noordsuythoeve

With over seventy stalls, this is one of the largest Christmas markets in the region. Stock up while enjoying pleasant live music and fun dance performances. Children can get their faces painted and on the atmospheric outdoor square you will find home-made stews and the beloved hamburger buns. Chances are you will meet Father Christmas here. You can have your picture taken with him (14 December 10:00-17:00, Schoolstraat 2 Noordbroek)!

Indoor Christmas market at De Hooge Meeren

In and around the largest shopping centre in the north, you can do all kinds of Christmas shopping indoors for three days. In the corridors of De Hooge Meeren, you will find plenty of stalls with all kinds of gadgets and in the more than 100 shops and eateries around it, you are guaranteed to succeed in your shopping. Buy a tasty stollen, piece of cheese or delicious chocolates, a fun glitter outfit for the holidays or a house suit to snuggle up with a book on the couch (19 to 21 December, Fri 10:00-20:00, Sat 10:00-17:00 and Sun 12:00-17:00, Hoogezand).
