Cycling and walking with children in Midden-Groningen

Of course your child can cycle or walk along on a big people's tour. Much more fun is a dedicated children's route, often a combination of cycling and walking (and playing).

Binocular tour (7.8/9.8 km)

If you like birds and the beach, this is an ideal trip. From Meerwijck beach, you cycle to the Kropswolderbuitenpolder. In the bird-watching cabin, you can spot unusual birds such as the white-cheeked tern, black-necked grebes and even white-tailed eagles. Cycle into the neighbouring Westerbroeksemadepolder to bird-watching cabin De Kiekhorn where you have a great view of waterbirds, meadow birds and waders. Along the way, you can also spot Scottish Highlanders and Konik horses.

Pancake tour (15 km)

Cycle the ingredients together for delicious and local pancakes! Mulder Pot in Kropswolde grinds the flour. Will you go for a forest, spelt or multi-grain pancake? At Camping Luna you will find goodies to fill your pancake with. For milk and delicious cheese on your pancake, visit Kaashuis Wrongel in Shopping Centre De Hooge Meeren. Get your eggs at Rustpunt De Ei Halte. And then: fry the pancakes and enjoy.

Climbing and climbing route (8.8 km)

In Kolham's woods there are various climbing apparatuses, but of course you can also just climb a tree. There is also swimming water and a raft. When the terrace is open, you can climb and play in the big wooden play castle at Ecomotion. The Entreprise runs regularly. You can climb here too, sometimes all the way to the top where de molenaar does his work. At JoMilly at the bottom of the mill, you can buy old-fashioned toys and eat an ice cream on the terrace.

Castle, mill and animals tour (10.5 km)

Groningen does not have castles, but it does have borgen, and Slochteren has a very beautiful one: the Fraeylemaborg. Take a treasure hunt to find out all about former residents. The large park behind the borg is extra fun in summer because of the Blotevoetenpad. On the Groenedijk there are three polder mills that were used to pump the land dry so farmers could grow crops. Nature reserve De Baggerputten has many species of plants, trees, insects and birds. You can look for real animals or use the app Perfect Earth Animals to find digital maps of animals living here.

Gnome trail (1/2.3 km)

Prefer just walking? In the Gnome Forest in Steendam you will find many gnomes. There are girl gnomes, with a golden beard, glasses and hazel teeth. On the small boulders scattered here and there, there are paw prints of many animal friends alongside their own footsteps. Can you find them all? At Kaap Steendam there is a gnome newspaper with questions, assignments and facts about nature.
