Some things just sound typically Groningen. Like Lieve and Nardia when you hear these two passionate entrepreneurs talk about their boutique Mary Jane. Located on Oosterstraat, they know how to find you a complete outfit. One that totally suits you and you will want to wear for years to come. We spoke to them about their unique venture, experiencing Groningen culture and adding their own ideas to the city.
These boots are made for walking
The name Mary Jane refers to the popular women's shoes from the 1920s. You'll find the most quirky shoes here. Sometimes handmade, sometimes from Italy, Spain or Portugal and sometimes even the only one in the world. The shop used to be a shoe boutique, but recently the two ladies also started offering clothes. Some clothing brands not previously available in Groningen have been hanging on Mary Jane's racks since spring. High-quality products are paramount here and the collection is put together with a lot of love. You will walk out of the shop well-dressed from head to toe after a wonderful shopping experience.
Together is Groningen
What Lieve and Nardia love about doing business in Groningen? "It's a big city, with the feel of a small village," they say. For them, typical Groningen is the feeling of togetherness. Proud entrepreneurs work together to put Groningen well on the map. Mary Jane fits well in this city, as they notice that Groningen is always innovating and becoming more sustainable. This really appeals to the two because they think it is important to bring innovation to the world of clothing and shoes. According to them, sustainability also manifests itself in being careful with the things you wear, by investing in quality and pieces that last. Sounds like Groningen.
Once a townie, always a townie
Lieve and Nardia choose Groningen. The two creatives have been living in Groningen for some time now and are completely devoted to the city. They are mega fans of the many small and unique businesses that offer something different from the big chains. That's what makes Groningen special, and Mary Jane fits right in. "You go from one side of the city to the other in no time, so everything is manageable in terms of distances. At the same time, there is enough to do to keep you entertained for a whole weekend." Highly recommended, then, if these city experts are to be believed. And if you do have to take a stroll through the streets of Groningen, you can do so stylishly on a pair of Mary Jane shoes.
