Zummerbühne

Every year, Zummerbühne stages large-scale musical theatre productions on location, each time in a different spot across the province of Groningen. The Groningen landscape is not merely a backdrop, but the star of the show. Just like the people who live there. Professionals share the stage with local people. This year, the company is setting up in Oostwold in Oldambt.

De Graanrepubliek

In the Oldambt region of Groningen, discontent is growing amongst farm labourers, whilst the powerful landowning farmers live in opulence. When activist Ludo leads the resistance and calls for a mass strike, ideals, desires and interests become irrevocably entangled, even within his own family. What begins as a hopeful cry for justice develops into the longest strike in Dutch history and turns into a story of personal loss, moral dilemmas and ruthless violence that continues to resonate to this day. But who are the perpetrators, and who are the victims? And who decides how history is told? De Graanrepubliek is a musical theatre production about resistance, longing and the price of justice.
