NITE

When you think of theatre in Groningen, you think of NITE. The National Interdisciplinary Theatre Ensemble creates interdisciplinary, energetic and innovative total theatre. Performances that attract young, diverse and new audiences in theatres and far beyond. Interdisciplinary theatre is therefore - also literally - their middle name.

From NNT to NITE

In 2017, NITE was founded when choreographer and director Guy Weizman took over artistic direction from the Noord Nederlands Toneel (NNT). Weizman's arrival also introduced international dance company Club Guy and Roni to the heart of Groningen. In early May 2023, it was decided to leave the name Noord Nederlands Toneel behind and continue under the name NITE. The reason: the word 'theatre' did not fit well with the versatile theatre they bring to the stage. As one of the four main theatre companies in the 'basic infrastructure' (BIS), NITE forms the largest and first interdisciplinary theatre house in the Netherlands.

An enchanting mix of culture

At NITE, an enchanting mix of theatre, dance, music, fashion, film and visual arts comes together. Here, they provide an incubator for young talented international dancers and actors in the Poetic Disasters Club. A club where bold experiments and innovative productions find their home. The door is always open at the community Bab Ad-Daar. With more than 150 enthusiastic newcomers, they come together to rehearse, create performances and develop exciting forms of theatre. And every year, NITE joins forces with Spot Groningen and theatre workshop De Wijk de Wereld. Together they dive into a new district of Groningen, where they create an unforgettable event in collaboration with the neighbourhood: De Wijk De Wereld.
