Viaduct over de spoorlijn Groningen-Assen

The viaduct was built in 1920 after the construction of a marshalling yard near Onnen. Due to the construction of the marshalling yard (1916-1920), the connecting road between the villages Onnen and Glimmen had to disappear. The Dutch Railways promised the municipality, at their expense, to establish a new connection in the form of a viaduct. This was opened in 1920. In 1954, in connection with electrification, the piers under the bridge were raised with blocks. No other changes have taken place. The viaduct is somewhat set back at the end of Viaduct Road and forms the connection between this road and the Gieselgeer to Onnen. The viaduct is made of riveted steel and is of general importance because of its cultural-historical value due to its striking riveted lattice construction, because of its typological rarity and because of its rustic location and spatial-visual relationship with the railway line (source: Rijksdienst voor het Cultureel Erfgoed) Sources: Wikipedia , National monuments .
