The Bentheimer pig is recognisable by its large, mottled patches and characteristic lobes. The Duroc pig is recognisable by its sturdy build and golden-yellow to cherry-red colour.
The pigs’ diet consists mainly of cereals, rapeseed, vegetables, fruit and hay. No soya or other genetically modified feed. The pigs roam outdoors in the countryside all year round, where they can root around in the mud and lie down to their heart’s content. So here, they are still allowed to be proper pigs. Waddenvarkens has its own farm shop on the premises. In 2020, Waddenvarkens will open its own butcher’s shop in the village of Uithuizermeeden.
