Once the BC47 premises officially met all the requirements from October 2016 onwards and were formally opened in December, BC47 organised a programme of events. The division of responsibilities was straightforward: BC47 provided the facilities, whilst initially the MMC Foundation organised the cultural events. BC47 managed the venue independently and initiated its own activities and performances. Since 1 January this year, BC47 has taken over all of MMC’s activities and, as an arts and culture organisation supported by many volunteers and professionals, continues to play a supporting role and, where necessary, an initiating one. Central to this is the stimulating and unifying role played by active participation in art and cultural expression. Using the Cultuurwerkplaats BC47 as a base and workspace for meetings, as well as spaces for set construction and lighting, video and sound technology, we now have the right tools to develop further. With the installation of good insulation, a heat pump and solar panels, we’re making a real commitment to sustainability. In addition to our own productions, we provide a stage for many theatre and music productions and other cultural initiatives from the region, the North and elsewhere in the country. We also host activities run by various providers, such as djembe, yoga, music courses and band rehearsals. Furthermore, we provide a meeting space for local community groups. Many magical moments at De Compagnieën.
