Take a closer look

In the protected villagescape of Kiel-Windeweer near the border with Drenthe, you will find De Scharrelderij. In nature reserves owned by Het Drentse Landschap and the K.P. Boon Foundation, among others, run the Groninger Blaarkoppen of owners Lotte Rensema and Pieter Heida. The area is maintained by this natural grazing and the cattle groups up in a natural and organic way.

A good and honest story and a healthy product, that is what De Scharrelderij stands for. That applies to the meat for sale in the shop, from its own genuine Gronninger blister heads. ,,We got a bit sad about the meat sold in the supermarket, especially about how those animals have to live," Heida says. ,,We started this farm with local produce shop because we believe it can be done differently."

Besides the free-range meat from the farm's own Groninger Blaarkoppen, you will also find other organic and regional products in the cosy farm shop. Eggs, herbs, potatoes, honey, special beer, flour and cheese. Rensema says: ,, We work as much as possible organically and with local products and sell all kinds of cheeses, such as Gouda cheeses, clove cheese and also sheep cheeses. This is almost incomparable to a cheese from the supermarket, the taste is so much richer and spicier."

11 October there is a tasting and you can get an explanation about organic nature grazing and you can watch a small part of the herd in the stable.

There is a tasting of dry sausage, a snack and a drink. And De Groninger Bal is on the farmyard with delicious meatballs in gravy.
