Voormalige chocoladefabriek van Houten

On the south-eastern edge of Wedde stands the former Van Houten chocolate factory. It was one of the businesses in a small industrial estate established on the Lage Weg in the early 1950s.

The factory was completed in 1952 and was built in the typical style of post-war reconstruction architecture of the early 1950s. For example, the brick façades are enlivened with vertical decorative concrete elements. In the early 1970s, Van Houten ceased production in Wedde. Externally, the complex remains almost entirely in its original state, partly thanks to a refurbishment in 1998. Today, the building is used as a photography studio and an art studio. It is not open to the public.
