The current farmhouse was rebuilt in 2008 by the Groninger Landschap Foundation, although farming had been practised on this site for much longer. Today, the farmhouse is let out as a holiday home for four people.

Situated in Europe’s oldest cultural landscape, the Reitdiep area, lies vakantiewoning Harssensbosch. It used to be a small hamlet, with even its own church and cemetery. Now, only traces of this remain in the landscape. The Reitdiep area is home to the heavily meandering River Hunze (Reitdiep), which once connected Groningen to the sea. In terms of nature, there is plenty to experience in the Reitdiep area. There are flower-filled hay meadows and ditches with water crowfoot, hedgehog’s head, frogbit and hollowroot. In spring, countless meadow birds breed here. In late summer and autumn, large flocks of lapwings and golden plovers pass through the Reitdiep area. They rest and feed here before continuing their journey. The Reitdiep area is a wintering ground for thousands of ducks (mainly wigeons). The city of Groningen is just 8 kilometres away. This means there is a wide choice of places to go out and eat. The current farmhouse was rebuilt in 2008 by Het Groninger Landschap, in the style of the early 1900s using materials from the old farmhouse. Harssensbosch is suitable for 4 people. The property has underfloor heating, which can be supplemented with a gas heater if necessary. You’ll feel as though you’ve stepped back in time when sleeping in one of the two box beds (140 x 200) that this property has to offer. There is a cot available for the little ones. Harssensbosch is equipped with every comfort.

Various cycle routes have been mapped out to take you past the most beautiful sights. There are two bicycles at the property which you are welcome to use during your stay. The front house and the barn both have their own entrances.

In the farm’s barn, there is a small exhibition space which Het Groninger Landschap uses for small-scale activities. This exhibition space is open every Saturday (and occasionally on other days) from 15 June to 26 October between 1.00 pm and 5.00 pm. At these times, there is a bit more activity in the farmyard.
