Kerk Midwolde
The oldest parts of this church, the nave and the lower part of the tower, date back to the 12th century. By design, this is one of the oldest brick churches in the province.

The Romanesque character is still clearly visible in the three semicircular windows on the north side, although the stained-glass is not original. The tower was added around 1400. Inside the church, the marble funerary monument is particularly striking. It was designed by Rombout Verhulst for Carel Hieronymus van Inn- und Knyphausen and his wife Anna van Ewsum (1665–1669). The rest of the interior also dates largely from the seventeenth century and reflects the influence of the residents of borg Nienoord. Of particular note are the raised gentlemen’s benches, modelled on the East Frisian style.
