This makes it a real eye-catcher in the landscape. The Donatuskerk is a medieval church: its construction started around 1050. Romanesque, Romano-Gothic as well as Gothic elements can be recognised in the church. Both tuff and brick were also used. The church was originally dedicated to Saint Donatus, bishop of Reims and patron of Leermens. Several paintings can be seen in the church, such as the paintings of Saint Sebastian from 1400-1450. The pulpit of the Donatuskerk comes from the seventeenth century. Under this piece of furniture is a hatch to the cellar. This was used as a hiding place for people in hiding during World War II. Nowadays, rumour has it, asparagus is also grown in the cellar.
