Station Delfzijl
Commissioner Maigret, the protagonist from Maigret in Holland, arrived here by train in 1929. He had come over from Paris to solve the murder of Koenraad Poppinga.

At the time, the station was situated on the edge of a park with tall trees, a bandstand and rose beds flanking sharply edged lawns. The park has disappeared, but the station remains exactly the same. The station was built in 1883, following the completion of the Groningen–Delfzijl railway line in 1880. The building consists of a central tower and two low side wings. The hipped roofs are covered with imitation slate. Red and yellow bricks alternate, and the doors and windows have bluestone sills. The canopy over the platform is supported by cast-iron columns with Ionic ornamentation.
