Noordlaarderbos

A varied walking route takes you through a diverse forest, past traces of the past and across the heathland of the nearby Vijftig Bunder nature reserve in Drenthe. The Noordlaarderbos is a kind of fairytale forest with a rich past. For instance, you will find burial mounds here. The old burial mounds in the Noordlaarderbos date from well before the Middle Ages. They are at least 2,500 years old. Burrowing people and animals caused them to lose their original shape. Due to erosion, they almost disappeared. But you can see them again, because five of them have been restored. A fantastic area, then, if you love cultural history and nature. And if you want to recover after all the impressions, Herberg-Restaurant De Blankenhoeve is an excellent base with a lovely terrace.
