We are Jenneke and Cornelis and we run the GArSTVRIJ Bed and Breakfast. We also have a Tea Garden for organisations that organise cycling, walking or Nordic walking tours. Use of the Tea Garden is by appointment only. We are originally from the Randstad and are enthusiastic about the peace and space that the province of Groningen – and Oldambt in particular – has to offer. We are therefore keen to help everyone enjoy the peace and space that can still be found here, and we look forward to welcoming you.

In our guest accommodation, we offer: comfortable, made-up single beds and a set of towels. The kitchenette is equipped with a microwave, a fridge and facilities for making a cup of coffee (Nespresso) and/or tea. In addition to a toilet and a separate shower, there is also a sheltered terrace with garden chairs and a parasol. We provide a full breakfast (not vegan or gluten-free). Should you have any specific requests, please do let us know.
Bicycles can be parked in a (locked) cycle shed, which features a charging point for e-bikes. If you’d like to hire a bike during your stay, we can contact the bike hire company on your behalf (advance booking is required). You can park your car free of charge on our premises.
What we have to offer is encapsulated in our motto: ‘Here, nature is the luxury’. Our B&B is therefore a place where tranquillity, simplicity and hospitality come together.
General: As well as being a lovely area for walking, there are also various places of interest within easy reach, including the museum Slag bij Heiligerlee, the Bell Founders’ Museum and the statue of Count Adolf (at the start of the Eighty Years’ War) in Heiligerlee. The Blauwestad leisure area (with two beaches), the 14th-century manor house on the Ennemaborgh Estate in Midwolda, the thermal baths with healing waters in Bad Nieuweschans, the fortified town of Bourtange, and so on.
Furthermore, there are various places to eat and drink in the immediate vicinity, and a trip to Groningerstad is also well worth a visit.
Opening hours
- From 1 April to 1 November, we make our guesthouse available to holidaymakers.
Between 1 November and 1 April, the guest house is closed as all sanitary facilities are shut off during this period to prevent freezing.
Awards
- Adults €76.50. If the guesthouse is occupied by one person, we charge €60.50 per night. The prices quoted include breakfast and exclude tourist tax.

By train: Alight at Scheemda station (alternatively, Winschoten station). Continue by Qbuzz bus towards Westerlee, getting off at the Lagelaan/Hoofdweg stop.
By car: From the A7, take exit 46 towards Heiligerlee, cross the bridge (Winschoterdiep) and continue towards Heiligerlee. At the T-junction, turn right towards Westerlee. On Hoofdweg, take the second right.
From the N33, take the Meeden, Winschoten exit towards Westerlee. On the Hoofdweg, turn left onto Lagelaan, then take the first right.
By bike or similar: From the direction of Veendam via Meeden, or from Winschoten via Heiligerlee.
Our B&B is situated on the NAP route (cycle route from Bad Nieuweschans to Breda) and the cycle junction route (between junctions 91 and 93). - Explanatory parking: On 1st Garstelaan, you will see a thatched yellow house. You can park there on the driveway (left). Bicycles etc can be stored in the shed.
