Academie Minerva
The Academy consists of four building sections, all built around a high-level square. Originally, this square was to be freely accessible to all Groningers.

In 1984, Academie Minerva was built to a design by Piet Blom. Blom was closely associated with structuralism; a movement in architecture in which human scale, collectivity and 'soft' transitions between the private and public domain played an important role. Unfortunately, the open character was soon abused, after which fences were installed at the entrances. There is a huge variety of spaces in the Academy. In his design, Blom very consciously tried to challenge visitors. The building is designed as if it has a certain order and logic, but these constantly put you on the wrong track. The chances are therefore high that, as a visitor, you will lose your way. Other buildings Blom designed are the Kubuswoningen in Helmond and Rotterdam and the De Kashbah project in Hengelo.
