Along the Hereweg, on the edge of the Sterrebos, stands the Jewish Monument that commemorates the more than 3,000 Jewish Groningers who were killed in the Second World War.

The artwork by Eduard Waskowsky was never fully completed: Waskowsky died before he could complete the hand on the seventh plinth. So the last plinth has always remained empty. Each hand exhibits its own emotion. The first is a clenched fist from which anger speaks. The second, on the other hand, stretches upwards in faith. The candlestick-shaped opening in the palm is the menorah: the seven-armed candelabrum that is a symbol of the Jewish people. The three standing hands express despair, while the two reclining hands symbolise sorrow and resignation. The irregular wall of concrete blocks in the background refers to the crumbling Judaism caused by Nazi terror.
