Kerk Niehove

Niehove's church was visited by storks for centuries. This was so valued by the people of Niehove that in 1668, a stained glass depicting the church and a stork's nest in the middle was installed.

One of Niehove's pastors, L.M. de Boer, even wrote a welcome poem for the birds with no less than eight stanzas, singing the birds' praises. From 1882, however, the birds did not show themselves, despite the church wardens' efforts to give them 'a home furnished according to the requirements of the time'. This church, in the middle of the mound of the village of Niehove, was built around the year 1230. Inside, there are dark brown pews, a black pulpit and much lighter men's pews opposite. The painted supper table, like the pulpit, dates from around 1800 and stands inside the baptismal railing from the 17th century.
