Boegbeeld

Boegbeeld

The Boegbeeld monument on the Hunsingoweg, designed by Gert Sennema, commemorates the closure of the Lauwerszee. The artwork depicts Zoutkamp’s fishing heritage, transformation and resilience, with the white-tailed eagle symbolising the new natural environment in the Lauwersmeer area.

On the dyke along the Hunsingoweg stands the Boegbeeld monument, created by artist Gert Sennema to commemorate the closure of the Lauwerszee. The monument illustrates the changes Zoutkamp has undergone and the village’s resilience. The fishing cutter symbolises Zoutkamp’s fishing heritage. Inside the hold, there are sculptures depicting the Lauwersmeer region. The sculptures appear to have been created by a new resident: the white-tailed eagle. From the bow, the bird looks out over the village.

Whilst work is being carried out on the lock, Boegbeeld has a temporary location on the corner of Sluisweg and Spuistraat.
