The remarkable Park Garden surrounds the 19th-century Oosterhouw Country House. This Groningen gem has a charm all of its own and never fails to amaze visitors. With its unique neoclassical appearance, it proudly showcases its rich history. Built in 1868, the country house was home to four generations of Hogeland notaries during its first 100 years. It then became a doctor’s surgery, providing care for the residents of the village of Leens. In 1989, the renowned poet C.O. Jellema and landscape architect K.T. Noordhuis purchased Oosterhouw. It became a source of inspiration for Jellema’s work. The poet’s literary library is still housed in the country house.
After your journey of discovery through the four garden styles of the Parktuin, you can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea on the terrace. There is a small shop selling a range of lovely and varied items. Explore Groningen’s open countryside further via various cycling and walking routes!
