B&B Jonkers Aarf

Did you know that 'aarf' is the Groningen word for 'yard'? In the barn where cows once stood, you will now find luxury accommodation.

Take a closer look

Until 2007, the Jonker brothers farmed on and around Jonkers Aarf. Oldest brother Jan Albert Jonker and partner Tieneke van Weerden have lived there since 1996. In autumn 2010, their big wish came true: luxury accommodation for family and friends, on the spot in the barn where the cows once stood when father Jonker farmed. The cowshed windows have been restored and are an important part of the atmosphere.

Bed & Breakfast Jonkers Aarf is located in the beautiful Woldstreek, on the Hoofdweg in Schildwolde. It has two spacious rooms with lovely box-spring beds and a private shower and toilet. In the guest room, you can make coffee and tea and use the microwave and fridge. The B&B is equipped with TV and wifi and has its own entrance and parking.

Not far from Schildwolde is the picturesque village of Slochteren, with the beautiful Fraeylemaborg. The entire borg is open to the public, from the kitchen in the basement to the linen room in the attic. The fairytale-like estate was designed in the 18th century with the gardens of French Versailles as inspiration, but is now an English landscape garden. A visit to the stately borg is fun for all ages. There is an exciting scavenger hunt for children, for instance, and a blotevoetenpad in summer.

For nature, you don't have to look far from Jonkers Aarf either. Less than three kilometres away, you will find the Knuppelpad: a wooden boardwalk right through the Dannemeer, and one of the most photogenic spots in the region. The Knuppelpad is located in 't Roegwold. This rugged nature reserve with swamp forest, reed beds and peat lakes has become a biodiversity Mecca. Numerous bird species and unusual plants feel at home here.

And what do guests say? "A very nice place in the yard of Jan Albert and Tineke. Lovely people who received us warmly. Good beds, everything spotless, a lovely full breakfast and there is a kitchen where you can prepare your own snacks. The surroundings are beautiful, we had wonderful days here. Thanks!"
