Formally, Ennemaborg in Midwolda is not a real borg. There were never any 'seigniorial rights' attached to the house. The city of Groningen took control of the Oldambt early on, preventing the landed gentry from developing in this area. Ennemaborg was built around 1391 as a stone house: a medieval fortification. Initially, the front facades still had two defensive towers. These disappeared during a conversion around 1708, when the building served as a country house for wealthy city-Groningers. Ennemaborg is surrounded by nature.

In front of the borg is a lawn where many shrubs bloom in spring. Next to the borg is an approximately 200-year-old beech tree and behind the house is a forest 2.5 kilometres long and 300 metres wide. There is also a pond there, which may once have been part of the moat that used to surround the whole area. Two workers' cottages also belonged to the borg. They have been restored and are now among the oldest houses in Midwolda.
