Tuinkoepel Hereweg
In and around Groningen, various historic buildings serve as a reminder of the Scholten family of industrialists. One such building is this Baroque garden dome, designed by the architect J. Maris.

The building dates from 1869 and was sold following Scholtens’ death in 1892. In 1958, the dome was purchased by the municipality of Groningen, with the intention of eventually demolishing it to widen the viaduct. Fortunately, this never came to pass. The dome was restored and four statues were placed in the niches: Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring.
