Tuinkoepel Hereweg
In and around Groningen, several monumental buildings recall the Scholten family of manufacturers. One such structure is this baroque garden dome designed by architect J. Maris.
Take a closer look
The building dates from 1869 and was sold after Scholtens' death in 1892. In 1958, the dome was bought by the municipality of Groningen, with the intention of eventually demolishing it to widen the viaduct. This fortunately never came to pass. The dome was restored and four statues were placed in the niches: Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring.
