Pieternellagasthuis
The Hortus neighbourhood in Groningen was a popular area to establish guest houses. The Pieternellagasthuis was also located here, on Grote Leliestraat.

This hospice was founded by Ludewé Vink, in memory of her three deceased husbands and two children. The guest house got its name from the names of Ludewé's children: her son was called Pieter and her daughter Pieternella. In 1871, Ludewé bought the property on Grote Leliestraat and the guest house was founded here in 1877. The guest house had strict conditions for new residents. For instance, they had to have an 'exemplary walk of life'. That meant they were not allowed to cause a nuisance and not to consume alcohol. And because Ludewé's last husband worked on a boat, boaters had priority for accommodation.
