Beers are brewed in this stunning building, and the cuisine is of an exceptionally high standard! The cuisine is best described as international, always with a unique twist. We also love incorporating beer into our dishes and always strive to find the perfect beer-and-food pairing. The bistro menu therefore features a wide variety of dishes, ranging from classic to modern. Recipes from classic cookbooks, such as *De Zilveren Lepel* or *Larousse Gastronomique*, as well as recipes inspired by travel, experiences and/or colleagues from other cultures. In addition to our bistro menu, we also serve our ‘5-course’ ‘I can’t/won’t choose’ menu.
Dokjard brewery-bistro is housed in an old warehouse with a long (culinary) history. Until 1920, the building housed the Noord-Nederlandse Clichéfabriek & drukkerij (Northern Netherlands Cliché Factory & Printing Works); shortly afterwards, it became a shop where you could buy supplies for rigging ships. The heavy cables were hoisted down using the pulley that is still in the building.
The culinary history begins with Mr Wong. In the 1970s, he established a Chinese restaurant called ‘de Mandarijn’, a household name in Groningen and the surrounding area. Mr Wong made way for ‘de Hongaarse Vork’, which in turn passed the baton to the team at ‘de Kaap’. Over the past fifteen years, Kaap Noord has become a household name amongst students and local residents of the harbour, the Hortusbuurt and the Oranjewijk.
At Dokjard, we are committed to treating our planet responsibly. Products do not always come from local suppliers, but they always come from suppliers who treat animals and nature responsibly. Naturally, as residents of Groningen, we would prefer to move away from gas as quickly as possible; for now, this is happening too quickly. But it is something we will certainly be working hard to achieve in the future.
