Welcome to perhaps one of the most beautiful places in Groningen, the Noorderhaven. The last free port in the Netherlands. Before there were buildings on this spot, we found 'the Noorderwerf' here. Welcome to perhaps one of the most beautiful places in Groningen, the Noorderhaven. The last free port in the Netherlands. Before there were buildings on this spot, we found 'the Noorderwerf' here. One of the city's shipyards. Walk 50 metres further and you're standing in the grass of the Noorderplantsoen.
In this beautiful building, beers are brewed and cooking is done to a wonderful standard! The cuisine is best described as international with always its own twist. We also love to reflect beer in the dishes and always strive to find the perfect beer-food combination. The bistro menu therefore features a wide variety of dishes, from classic to modern. Recipes from classic cookbooks, such as De Zilveren Lepel or Larousse Gastronomique, but also recipes inspired by travels, experiences and/or colleagues from other cultures. Besides our Bistro menu, we also serve our '5 course' I can't/won't choose menu.
Brouw-bistro Dokjard is located in an old warehouse with a long (culinary) history. The building housed the Noord-Nederlandse Clichéfabriek & drukkerij until 1920, a while after which it became a shop where you could buy supplies for rigging ships. The heavy cables were hoisted down via the pulley that is still in the building.
The culinary history starts with Mr Wong. In the 1970s, he established a Chinese restaurant 'the Mandarin', a household name in Groningen and the surrounding area. Mr Wong made way for 'the Hungarian Fork', who passed the baton back to the men of 'de Kaap'. For the past 15 years, Kaap Noord has been a household name among students and residents of the harbour, the Hortus neighbourhood and the Oranjewijk.
At Dokjard, we want to treat our planet responsibly. Products do not always come from local parties, but always from suppliers who treat animals and nature responsibly. Of course, as Groningers we would prefer to get rid of the gas as soon as possible, for now this comes too soon. But it's something we will definitely fight for in the future.
Dokjard is one of the great places to enjoy a locally brewed beer during Beerwalk Groningen. Beerwalk Groningen is a city tour and beer tasting in one. With a guide, you discover the city's rich (beer) history.
Hope to see you at Noorderhaven!
