Koren- en pelmolen De Jonge Hendrik

Tiddo Muda was the last professional miller at the Jonge Hendrik. It was he who worked as a professional miller at the Jonge Hendrik until 1983; the last professional miller in the Netherlands!

The mill is also open to visitors on special days, such as during the Groningen Mill Weekend; please check the events calendar on the site for the latest updates. De molenaar and trainee millers will be delighted to show you round. You are therefore very welcome to explore the mill inside and out and enjoy the magnificent view from the viewing platform. We’d also be happy to explain how the mill works. It is also possible to book a group tour, for example with a school class or as part of a children’s party.

De Jonge Hendrik is managed by the Winsum Mill Foundation. This foundation was established on 17 December 1992 and owns five mills. These are: koren- en pelmolen De Jonge Hendrik in Den Andel; the De Ster and De Vriendschap grain and husking mills in Winsum; the De Meeuw grain and husking mill in Garnwerd; and the Joeswert grain and husking mill in Feerwerd. The Winsum Mill Foundation aims to maintain the mills within the municipality of Winsum in their original and operational condition as far as possible. It does this by raising awareness of the mills amongst the public, the local council and the relevant provincial and national authorities responsible for the preservation of historic monuments. In addition, it raises the necessary funds for the maintenance and restoration of its mills by recruiting donors and by approaching the aforementioned authorities and funds specialising in heritage conservation.
