The lock in Pekelerhoofddiep allowed boats to pass through the deep, despite the difference in height of the water. In 1898, a dwelling was built at the lock chamber for the lock keeper.

Special features of the house include the ornate eaves and bright arches with red and yellow stones above the ground-floor windows. The house also has a terrace, from where the lock keeper could keep a close eye on the lock. Today, the lockkeeper's house is only used as a residence.
