Location
At Museum Kapiteinshuis Pekela , you get the feeling that the captain has just stepped out for a short walk with his wife and could return at any moment to tell his tall tales. Kornelis Jans Boon and Jantje Roelofs Koop had a Captain’s House built in Nieuwe Pekela just before the 19th century. The two bluestone blocks beneath the front door, bearing the initials K.J.B. and J.R.K. and the year 1799, serve as a reminder of its construction. The Kapiteinshuis was built during a period when the Veenkoloniale Zeevaart was experiencing its first heyday. Stap over the threshold of the Kapiteinshuis museum in Pekela and it feels as though you’ve stepped back in time. The captain’s cap and coat hang by the door; perhaps he’s just popped out for a stroll after a long sea voyage. In the meantime, you can take a leisurely look around the house.
