Onlands

Wetlands for dry feet

Under the smoke of the city of Groningen lie de Onlanden. A relatively young nature reserve. You will find rough hay meadows, marsh forest and plenty of space for excess water. The area ensures that the city's inhabitants keep their feet dry. It's a lovely place to go for a walk.

Vast marshlands

In the nature of de Onlanden you encounter a lot of water. The area is closely connected to streams and other water bodies nearby. It also serves as a water storage area for the city. During prolonged, heavy rainfall, it ensures that Groningers keep their feet dry. All this water creates marshy nature. Ideal for birds to settle. They are therefore found here in large numbers. The white-tailed eagle pays regular visits here. Several otters have settled here and ex-moor ponies graze the area. Wild nature, a stone's throw from the city.
