The Camping Meerwijck campsite is located right next to the beach. Owner Petry de Vries: ‘We have Swiss cottages, tiny houses, safari tents and the Coco Lodge where people can camp Western-style.’ With their marina, swimming pool and animation team for the younger ones, this campsite exudes a friendly and well-cared for ambiance. In addition, it is located in a wooded area where you can cycle. The adjacent polders are home to Scottish Highlander cattle, Konik horses and rare bird species. If you want more action, you can always visit the city of Groningen or Zuidlaren.

Spotting the rare beaver

The Paviljoen De Leine – with its beautiful view over the lake – is a perfect starting point for great bicycle rides, sailing, or hiking through the countryside. ‘Our landing place is your starting point for a cruise to spot beaver traces, or maybe even the actual animal itself. They have found themselves a perfect habitat here, and even built a lodge right opposite our pavilion!’, says Carin Jorritsma of the pavilion.

Check out the outdoor café of the Beachclub Vifero by the Meerwijck beach for a chill evening or to enjoy a delicious meal. ‘Bury your toes in the sand and enjoy that delicious cocktail; this is time well spent’, says manager Rachelle Veeger. ‘Our personnel is happy to go that extra mile and guarantee everything is perfect.’ The Vifero restaurant serves delicious lunches and extensive meals, and their snack bar sells snacks and ice cream.
