Fancy a hearty lunch? Looking for something different from your usual sandwich? Then you’ve come to the right place in the city. And whether you fancy an authentic Italian lunch, Asian street food snacks or a luxurious four-course lunch, there are plenty of places in Groningen where you can enjoy a leisurely lunch. We’ve put together a list of some great lunch spots that are definitely worth a visit.

Sepia

J.C. Kapteynlaan 29 – Sepia is situated in a cosy spot just outside the city centre. This is the place to go for a lunch you’ll want to take your time over. Every three weeks, a new four-course surprise menu awaits you. They cook using locally sourced ingredients wherever possible. And for those who prefer a vegan diet, they’re happy to prepare a tailored menu. Once lunch is over, you can also pop in for a quick drink with some tasty nibbles.

TOET – the TOET Paradise

Gedempte Zuiderdiep 85 – This is a real must-visit for those with a sweet tooth. A dessert paradise where delicious sweets and cakes are made. Ingredients are selected with the utmost care, preferably organic and local, or otherwise Fair Trade. And you can enjoy more than just a sweet treat with your coffee. In the afternoon, they serve a proper ‘DESSERT’ dinner. A seven-course dessert menu featuring plenty of sweet treats, as well as a cheese platter and a savoury tart.

Gustatio

Oosterstraat 3 – When it comes to a leisurely lunch, the Italians are second to none. It’s no surprise, then, that Gustatio is also open at lunchtime. The restaurant is run by a family from Rome, and the entire kitchen team consists of Italian chefs from different parts of Italy. And you can really taste the difference! With all sorts of Italian classics, delicious antipasti and the tastiest homemade pasta, it’s a lovely place to spend your afternoon too. Lunch just like you would in Italy.

Florentin Brunch Club

Langestraat 66 – Restaurant Florentin is inspired by the bustling neighbourhood of the same name in Tel Aviv. This free-spirited city, where all cultures come together, has a creative, artistic vibe and ‘Balagan’-style food. In the former Oude Gasfabriek, you can experience the food, drink and this atmosphere in all its glory. And on the last Sunday of every month, you can head here for The Brunch Club. With a table laden with Tel Aviv’s most beloved flavours, delicious cava, unlimited homemade lemonades and laid-back tunes, it’s the perfect place to indulge.
