Borgerswold | The ultimate getaway
In many places in the Veenkoloniën you can have a good time together with the children. But in Borgerswold in particular, there are lots of opportunities for an active day out. There, children can canoe, take to the water, climb and scramble, play in the Spelerij and go to the petting zoo. For younger explorers, the Veenjagerspad is highly recommended. Taking a walk or mountain biking in Borgerswold is of course also possible.

If you fancy an afternoon of culture, head to the Veenkoloniaal museum in Veendam. Through its permanent exhibitions, you’ll discover how the Veenkoloniën came into being and learn about the area’s history. There’s also always a lovely temporary exhibition. Especially for the youngest children, we’ve hidden a large family of mice on every floor of the museum. Not just any mice, but relatives of the museum’s mascot, Tiemo Tijdloos. The challenge is: count the number of mice in the museum. There’s a form at reception where you can note down your total. We’ll be holding a prize draw for the participants. This way, budding culture lovers can discover the museum through play!
