What you don't need a car for
In Groningen, you’ll find the best days out for children just round the corner. Whether you want to discover snakes and monkeys together or wander through a stately manor house, you’ll often find yourself literally dropped off at the doorstep. Prefer to get out and about? Then you can always just hop on your bike. A day trip from Groningen is quick to organise and doesn’t have to take up much time at all. Broaden your horizons with all the wonderful things the province has to offer. And even better: you don’t even need a car to do it.
DoeZoo & Verhildersum | Bus
Always wanted to have a snake around your neck? Or stroke a tarantula? At DoeZoo you can. At this zoo, you are often allowed to do a little more than usual. Discover the exciting spiders and lizards and the cute monkeys. Not done exploring after your adventure among the animals? Then just around the corner you can also visit Landgoed Verhildersum. There is also plenty for children to do around this beautiful castle. Dress up as a knight or princess and go on a treasure hunt around the estate.
How to get there? Both borg Verhildersum and DoeZoo are easily accessible by bus from the city of Groningen. Bus 65 to Zoutkamp takes about 40 minutes to Leens from the main train station. At the borg, the bus stops literally in front of the door. For DoeZoo, you can get off at the stop Leens, Wierde, from there it is a 3-minute walk to the zoo.
Landgoed Nienoord & Posta 7 | Bus
Under the smoke of the borg Nienoord, you will also find a family park in Leek where you can have fun. Almost nowhere will you find as many attractions as here. Have fun in the playground, stroke the goats at the petting zoo or take a ride on the stream train. Less sunny day? Then just a village away you can visit Posta7, where you can find all kinds of cool indoor activities. From bowling to glow-in-the-dark mini-golf, you can do it all here. And an added bonus: you can just stay on the same bus.
How to get there. Familiepark Nienoord and Posta7 can both be reached by bus line 3. For the family park, stap off at the Leek, Centrum stop, from where you can walk to the estate in 10 minutes. That same bus continues to the roundabout in Tolbert, where you can get off to get to Posta7. From the roundabout, it's another 5-minute walk to the activity centre.
