“ "Deliciously local" ”

Organic goat's cheese

Groningen's Westerkwartier is home to De Oude Streek, a small-scale goat farm and farm shop. At this location, raw milk cheeses are traditionally made by owner Hanneke Kuppens. Some 40 goats can be found on this beautiful piece of Groningen and a variety of goat cheeses are developed. The most famous cheese, Machedoux, is used for the drinks board. You can buy it at Hanneke's farm shop, but De Kaaskop in the heart of Groningen also sells this delicious goat's cheese.

Cheese from Boer'n Jonker

In Jonkersvaart, a small village in Groningen, family business Boer'nJonker has been making artisanal cheese from their own cows for about 50 years. These cows get plenty of time to graze in the meadow and they are cared for with passion. After all, the tastiest products come from the healthiest cows. You can buy the cheeses at the farm shop, but De Stadsslager in Stad also sells these delicious regional products. The cheeses are all rich in omega 3 and full of flavour, making them perfect for on your drinks board. This is how you taste Groningen in its purest form.

Groningen special beer from de brouwerij

Baxbier is a Groningen brewery with its own waterfront tasting room and an annual beer festival. Their beers can now be found in every corner of the country. One of the best known is 'Kon minder', named after the typical Groningen pronunciation for 'more than fine'. The fresh, fruity taste of this beer is definitely more than fine and will make you curious to take the next sip. Just as fruity a blonde beer can be found at brewery Martinus. Since 2015, they have been brewing speciality beers in a unique industrial building on the Kostergang in the city centre. Here you can not only taste their special beers, but also enjoy a bite in the atmospheric restaurant with roof terrace.

Chocolate Mole Beans

Mole beans used to be eaten a lot in the city, making them a true Groningen delicacy. These lightly salted roasted mung beans are coated in chocolate. A nice sweet counterpart to all the savoury on the plate. A real flavour bomb and perfect for the sweet tooth during drinks. A Groningen delicacy like this is of course on sale at the Groningen Store.

Development

Grab a bowl and add one tablespoon of Groningen honey and three tablespoons of Marne coarse mustard. Mix the ingredients into a nice whole. Then season the honey-mustard dip with a pinch of salt and pepper. The result? A delicious dip with both a sweet and spicy flavour. Perfect with a piece of cheese or toast. Complete your drinks board with slices of cucumber and Groningen dry sausage. Don't forget the mole beans and dots of goat cheese. Think goat cheese is too sour? Then drizzle some local honey over the cheese. Finally, open your Groningen beer and the bubbly can begin. Could be less, right?

Enjoy your meal!
