Tips from Pieter Busman

Salmagundi's

This is a really atmospheric place to enjoy a good meal. It’s a bit tucked away near the Stadsstrand , so you won’t just stumble across it. I think it used to be an old schoolgebouw . But the food is fantastic. Shared dining, fresh and quite healthy too (I reckon). I’d recommend ordering the ‘full table’ and sharing all the mezze!

Club Wicked

Yes, it really is my favourite place for a night out laughing. The great thing is that this is Groningen’s first comedy club, and big-name comedians regularly perform there (unannounced!). Which means you can practically smell the cold sweat of a Daniël Arends or Theo Maassen.

Zondag

Why not head out of the city centre to Noorderplantsoenhet Noorderplantsoen’(Groningen’s Vondelpark)? You take the metro, then the tram, and you’re there in no time! Just kidding – everything in Groningen is within walking distance. Here’s a popular little spot where you can enjoy a lovely evening drink! It’s called Zondag and you can even bring your pet along if you like.

BOEL

I also quite like to get some exercise whilst having a drink! So BOEL is a great place to go. It’s also near the Noorderplantsoen. A lovely game of boules in the evening!

Water skiing

Why not go wakeboarding or water-skiing before sunset? You can do this in the city at Kardinge. Why not book a lesson at Wakepark Groningen (just make sure to arrange it in advance)? Or hop on your bike and head off to explore BreakOut Grunopark. It’s a spot where lots of students often go wakeboarding or water-skiing. A place that’s always a great atmosphere. And you can have a drink there afterwards too. Nothing beats sitting back with a beer, feeling all rosy-cheeked afterwards.
