NEARBY
Boerderij Hermans Dijkstra
Everywhere in Oldambt, you see farms with a kind of castle-like front house. They are the homes of the prosperous gentleman farmers of over a century ago. With a driveway, English winding garden and front house with decorated eaves, boerderij Hermans Dijkstra is a chic sight. The property dates from 1858, the time of the champagne years in Oldambt. So you could say that people farmed well here. These days, you can stay there for dinner and overnight, among other things.

Sailing, windsurfing, supping and canoeing. Think of a water sport and on the Oldambtmeer you can do it. Unlike other lakes, the Oldambtmeer is specially built for water sports. There are over eight square kilometres of water, comparable to 1,200 football fields. More than enough space to indulge yourself, so now all you have to do is choose which sport to go for.

On the edge of Midwolda is Ennemaborg. A borg that isn't really a borg at all. Although the name suggests otherwise, there have never been any 'lordly rights' attached to Ennemaborg. Yet it does have the stature of a real borg. The estate also includes a baroque park garden, two workers' cottages and a large forest. This forest is home to a herd of konik horses. They graze the estate and keep it looking nice all year round. You might come across them on your walk.
