The present church is the remnant of an originally late Romanesque cruciform church. The simple but valuable furniture forms a harmonious unit. The pulpit (covered with baroque panels with chequered arches on claw pieces), the choir screen and the church wardens' bench date from the mid-seventeenth century. Under the pulpit is an offering box anchored in the floor. The organ with its neo-Gothic organ case, remarkable for a Protestant church, was installed by Van Oeckelen in 1874. Once, in 1398, a murder was committed in this church. The Schieringers and the Vetkopers fought a battle for power. Schieringer Eppo van Nittersum chased the Vet copper Hayo Wibbens from the church into a nearby vicarage farm. Eppo then set it on fire to smoke Hayo out. This succeeded according to the old chronicles: " alsoo Hajo Wibena ran again into the kercke alwaer he was then seized before the high altaer and beaten to death. " Key address: H.F.N. Helmantel (Abbot. Emopad 2, Westeremden, 0596-551415) and/or Fam.Vasse-Helmantel (Abbot. Emopad 4, Westeremden, 0596-855586)
